My Vaio has recently started to switch off without warning, when it is doing high CPU tasks, such as backup to an external HDD or moving files between two external HDD's.
Using mobilemeter, I obtain a reading of 76 Deg C for browsing the internet and other low cpu intensive tasks, however, I have measured a cpu temp of 90 Deg C with another program.
These temps seem high to me, unsure if the fan requires replacing or the whole unit needs cleaning to make the cooling more efficient.
Any advice gratefully accepted.
Hi Musicman,
Sounds like your processor is hitting its temperature limit and passive cooling is causing shutdown - this usually happens at about 90 deg.
You could try using a can of compressed air and try to dislodge any dust in the cooling vents but I suspect you may need to take it apart to clean out the airways properly.
