Hi, I think my vaio vgn-n21m/w keep braking my mouse. About two month ago my wired optical mouse just suddenly stop working. When I plug the mouse in it say the device is malfunctioning or something like that. Now I'm having problems with my wireless mouse it doesn't work properly I tried replacing the mouse batteries and it still don't work it keep freezing every few seconds. I tested with my sisters mouse and it works fine so that's why I think my vaio keep breaking my mouse. Dose any one have the same problem or know what may actually causing it. My OS is Vista Home Premium.
Thanks.
Do other USB devices have the same problem? ie. external HDD or USB memory stick.
Sounds to be like a bus driver problem. Happened to me on my desktop with my external HDD.

Also are you getting a warning that the 'usb hub is experiencing high amounts of voltage'. If so it is arcing power due the usb being damaged or becoming lose (easy to do). If so put it into Vaio Link for replacement which I beleive is a level 2 repair and will cost around £300+. Hope you still have warranty. The reason it is so pricey is the harness for the USB needs to be hard soldered onto the motherboard...not for the fainthearted.
No I don't "get usb hub is experiencing high amounts of voltage" error message. I get this message USB Device Not Recognized One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving, click this message.
I do have a USB hard drive I use it to back-up my laptop and when I plug it in, it seems okay but I don't use it for long unlike the mouse. I have a USB webcam somewhere I'll try using that for long time and see what happens. If there is a problem with the laptop then I'm sure my insurance will cover it.
Thanks for replying guys.
Does it happen in all the USB ports?
I presume the device works again in another computer etc.?
I would try this before you send it away to be looked at:
Start -> Type "Device manager"
Expand the Univeral Serial Bus controllers and right-click on all the devices and click uninstall. Reboot and let it reinstall the drivers automatically.
If it is successful then hopefully it won't bother you again.
(Make backup of you data incase it goes wrong)
If this still doesn't work then you will have to do a full recovery (This is the first thing sony will ask you to do before they will take it for repair - definately need a backup for this)
