Matshita UJ-850S & VGN-FE31Z - Cannot Read CD's !

Hi Guys,

Whilst i did spend some time trying to go through some old threads I couldn't find similar issue.

When i put a CD in the drive, nothing happens. Well, you can feel the drive is spinning but no auto start whatsoever.

When i browse the F: drive, no file are shown. In the device manager, the device is working fine... alledgedly!

Any thought please?

There is a firmware update for matshita drive, available at vaio support.

Read and follow the installation instructions carefully.

Hello VAIO-groupie!

Just tried this update but i am apparently running the latest firmware.
Also, i've just come accross a thread grom July 9th which suggest a full system recovery if no other option. As I'm not sure my dvd drive has ever worked, would a system recovery change anything?

Getting now frustrated!

Sorry for the late reply, had some problems myself today.

Before you go for full recovery, uninstall the F driver in device manager, then reboot, reinstall and reboot again.

Can't promise anything, but it's worth a try before a wipe-out!
