Having one heck of a job registering my system for e-support
it's a VGC-V2S - not accepted as a valid model number (with or without hyphen)
serial number field not big enough to accept the full value (with or without hyphen!)
My software frequently reports 'not a VAIO computer' - can't perform application restores from disks I made up using the Sony utility (previous thread, nobody responded so far - thanks (not)
This includes the 'application recovery' CDs - therefore have no faith in the backup I took, and at the moment a complete system restore is out the question
So far - the support sucks, and in spite of having 20+ years in IT this is one of the worst organised sites I can think of!
& I don't mind telling anyone who asks
Company support line only open when I'm at work, so I'd have to take the day off to call them & fix issue (possibly)
is it just me, or have I bought a first-rate system with third rate support?
Calm down !!!
I check the computer model at support and i founded :
Vaio Desktop : VGC-V2S

and to register, take a look at :
Where can I find the serial number on my VAIO computer?
The serial number of your VAIO computer is a 15 digit number. It has two parts :
The first part is a product code consisting of 8 digits, which begins with "28", and which identifies the model, operating system, target country and language(s). Note: the PCG-R600MXKIT VAIO Notebook is an exception - its serial number starts with 500.
The second part of the serial number consists of 7 digits and is unique for your computer. The first digit depends on the region of purchase of your VAIO. For example, 5 identifies a VAIO purchased in Europe, 3 for the United States and 1 for Japan.
Therefore, a serial number for a VAIO computer purchased in Europe will have the following form:
28XXXXXX-5XXXXXX
There are several ways to find the serial number of your VAIO computer:
On the unit
On the original packaging
In the Sony Notebook Setup or VAIO System Information applications
In the BIOS of a VAIO Notebook

I will watch the thread and try to help you, OK ?
Sorry about the another thread, i don't saw....

Thanks for your response
I eventually sorted it out - details in another thread, suffice to say, a combination of resetting BIOS (which I'm not convinced made any difference) and downloading then running an applications patch file (15 meg) seemed to sort the VAIO thing & let me re-install some of the original software
