HORRID screen saver

Hi,

How do I turn OFF the horrible Vaio screen saver? The green one that makes the music when it goes on when no one is logged in. I like to leave my PC on at night & now it's waking me up!!

Hi Robert and welcome to the forum.

If you are running Vista – right click a blank area of the Desktop and select Personalize > Screen Saver and select ‘Blank’ from the drop down menu and then click apply.

For XP - click a blank area of the Desktop and select Properties > Screen Saver tab and select ‘Blank’ from the drop down menu and then click apply.

I'm running XP Media Center edition - came preinstalled.

I've got 3 users. I switched all of them to blank.

And, still, when there's no one logged in, the music still comes on.

Uninstall the VAIO screensaver or just delete the right file. (or rename it to "filename".bac for backup)

If no one's logged on, then it uses a default screensaver which on my AR21S is the trailer for Casino Royale. It scared the hell out of me the first time it came on! You need to leave a user logged on to be able to select a screensaver.

I think that's how it works.

Hi There .............. I'm really not sure what I'm doing or even if I'm doing it right, if not please accept my apologies. As I'm still new to Vaio activity I find that my screensaver is not working. I've set the correct details from desktop properties but the screensaver will not cut in after the set time. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance.

Jumbles, i would love to have the casino royale screensaver! All i get is a blank screen when i leave the login screen up!

Can I just suggest, if this screensaver is waking you up and comes on when no one is logged in, it would be more econimical and sensible to have your computer in standby or switched off if no-one is using it rather than leaving it on the log-in screen.

I just found out something about the Casino Royale SS. It's actually the VAIO Original SS (vaiomov.scr) that goes on about the AR Series for a bit then has the Casino Royale Trailer. The AR Series bits are silent so I never noticed it till the lion starts roaring!

There's an entry in the Registry at [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop] that points to this screensaver. Could that be where the pre-login screensaver is set?

I just tested it and changing the value for the SCRNSAVE.EXE entry at the above registry key will change the pre-login screensaver.
