Does anyone know if there is a alternative DVD writer on the market that is compatable with my Vaio VGN A497XP, the drive that is fitted as standard by Sony [DW-D56A] has been nothing but problems, it has been changed once under warranty and now just over a year later the replacement has gone U/S.
Reading other calls for help throughout the internet about this drive I think it's about time Sony got their act together and replaced this mobel of drive.
I have asked Sony for help through e support but they have not even the courtsay to responed, even if they did it would be the usual back up all your files and do a system restore to the original set up, then they might admit the drive is U/S and charge the earth to replace it with another DW-D56A

Well any standard notebook drive will fit but the really problem is fitting the faceplate's without modifying them.
