capture problems

Hi,
I try to capture video form my sony trv 950 via firewire onto my Vaio FE41M.

My favourite program premiere 6 does not work.

Premiere Elements, which it came with, does not work (tells me: capture device offline).

Windows Import video works but the captured file does not play back in media player.

DV gate seems to work, but seems complicated to do all tyhis stuff in different programs!

DV Gate is probably the only way to do this, it's quite simple once you get to grips with it. If you do have the VAIO Edit Components Premiere 6 really should do it though.

i havent got edit components with dv gate, how do I get them? Premiere 6 also wont play the clips (it doesnt run properly on vista...

You do have VAIO Edit components installed although like me its not actually installed so this is how you get it:

Start -> Type C:\Program Files\Sony\VAIO Recovery Utility\varu.exe and hit enter.

Click yes when it asked you whether you want to run it.

The Application recovery window will open.

Scroll down to VAIO Edit Components and click on it.

Press the Install button and let it install.
