battery suddenly disappeared

Hello! I was wondering if somebody could help me out. My battery suddenly went off, yesterday it was working propperly, and today my computer won't turn on without the power cord, and it says that the battery is absent. Is it normal for the battery to simply "stop"? Isn't it suppose to loose it's capacity slowly? I bought this computer a year ago, approximately.Well, i'd really apreciate some help, thank you all!

Hi maririal and welcome to Club Vaio.

It does sound like the battery has suddenly died. Have a look in Device Manager and expand Batteries. Double-click on your battery. Under General does it say your battery is working normally? Or is there a yellow warning triangle shown?

The only way to be absolutely sure is to 'borrow' a battery of the same type and see if it works or not.

Do you have a Sony shop in Barcelona - they may lend you one to try out.

It might be worth cleaning the battery connection terminals on the battery itself and on the machine.

Well, thank you both so much!! I'll try to clean the contacts, and see if I can get another battery for a test. Thanks again! Just one little thing: what can I use to clean the contacts?

The old fashioned rubber ink eraser will clean up the contacts.
