drivers for windows 7

I got windows 7 from my school and i want to install it on my vaio laptop VGN-FW21E. Now it asks for the driver from the cd/dvd-rom. I looked on the sony site but can't find it. Can sombody help me?

InD88

Hi ind88 and welcome.

You should have made your own DVD Recovery Discs by going to Start -> All Programs -> Vaio Recovery Centre.

These Recovery Discs would hold the full Vista recovery software including drivers.

There are no Windows 7 Drivers or Utilities available yet but the Vista ones will be compatible with Windows 7.

You can download them from here:

Hi ind88,

The CD/DVD ROM driver is a driver provided with the Windows operating system. The inf file will be located at C:\Windows\inf\cdrom.inf

If you are unable to point the wizard in this direction then try the following:

Click Start > Control Panel > Device Manager.

Expand CD/DVD ROM Drives – double click the drive and on the Driver tab click 'Update Driver'

Select ‘Browse my Computer....’

Next ‘Let me Pick from a List...’

Click ‘Have Disk’ and browse to C:\Windows\inf\cdrom.inf

Hopefully this will install the correct drivers...

If under CD/DVD ROM drives nothing is listed then look for unidentified devices and follow the same procedure.

okay thank you. I'll try to use that as the driver.

The problem is that I boot the system with running the setup from the beginning (to upgrade) and i can't set-up the driver later for the cd/dvd-rom.

Try uninstalling the device in Device manager (Right click the CD/DVD ROM Drive and select uninstall). Then reboot.

If that doesn’t resolve the problem then it may indicate that there is a problem with the cdrom.inf that came with your copy of Windows 7 – but I doubt that. You could overwrite the said file with the one that was originally installed under Vista, but as I have no experience of Windows 7 I have no idea whether this will work...

I'm glad that I'm not alone on this
