HT-AS5 settings for DTS-HD

I have the HT-AS5 surround system and the S370 Blu-ray player. Can anyone tell me how I should set the sound up on these. I have set the audio on the player to be PCM. I have set the surround system "sound field" to "AFD MULTI". This sounds OK, and sound comes out of all speakers. The manual would lead me to believe that for the sound to be as it was recorded it should be set to "AFD STANDARD", but no sound comes out the surround speakers. The source is Avatar in DTS-HD.

Hi, I've just bought the same surround sound system and linked it to my KDL-40W5500 TV and BDP-S360 Blu-ray player.

I used a high speed HDMI cable from Blu-ray to surround sound and one from surround sound to TV and an optical cable from TV to surround sound.

When I play the Avatar disc in DTS-HD setup, the sound field on the surround changes from Pro-Logic II (which is what I use when I'm just watching standard TV) to AFD Standard.  I am getting sound from the surround speakers with this configuration though so it's strange that you're not.

Don't forget that the sound from the surround speakers is intentionally quite subtle and often only brief.  Listen out for it, for example, on scenes when helicopters circle overhead.

You might want to go into the Level menu on the surround sound (you can do this whilst watching the Blu-ray) and setting the Test Tones on.  You'll get white noise pulses from each speaker in turn, then you can scroll through the menu and try adjusting the levels of output from the SR and SL speakers.to suit you.  I boosted mine a bit after the initial auto-calibration had done it's thing.

Hope this has been of some help.
