I have an A37 and a couple of zoom lenses. Sometimes when using the zoom (thus twisting the lens zoom control), the camera seems to lose connection with the lens and loses aperture and focus controls - it behaves like the lens isn't there any more; the camera display says F- rather than an aperture number, and auto focus doesn't work. Unmounting the lens (not all the way, just pressing the release) and remounting it is usually enough to make the camera see the lens again. There's nothing obviously wrong with the contacts by the look of it. Is there some way to clean the contacts? Obviously don't want any contact cleaner dripping down into the optics... This happens with the kit SAL1855 lens and a Tamron 18-250 lens too. I have a prime lens and that's fine - but then it doesn't get twisted to zoom.
Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about it. Newer cameras have slightly tighter mounts.
Try "retwisting" the lens if you lose connection. You'll see that you don't even have to press the lens-release button.
Welcom to the forum btw!
