Can an rdr HX780 record digital TV???

Parents have purchased a Sony HX780 HDD recorder. Their TV is a Sony Bravia with integrated digital tuner. Having tried to set it up for them for the past 4 hours it seems that it will only access analogue channels which seems ridiculous.

Have I got this completely wrong and is there a way around this?

Parents are very elderly so any solutions would be gratefuly received.

I'm having the exact same problem with the RDR-HX780. I have tried with both the SCART and HDMI but get the message 'Unable to Download Channels from TV,' which is a digital Sony Bravia.

Solutions anyone?

If you look at the specifications for the HX780, you will see that it does not have a digital Freeview tuner - just an analogue PAL Tuner.

Although it cannot tune into DVB-T Freeview channels using an ariel, it can record digital channels by using the Freeview DVB tuner found in the Sony Bravia. To do this use a SCART lead and the SMARTLINK feature called 'TV Direct Record' - see Page 32 of the User Manual here: -
