KDL-49WE755 TV will not allow software update by any supported method

Hello All,

TV Model KLD-49WE755

Current software level 8.201

Trying to update to 8.235 (after that I plan to update to 8.464). Sony says to update in this sequence.

1) Update via Network (6Mbps connection) -> Home -> Settings -> Customer Support -> Software Update -> Network

"Downloading ...." 0% -> 100%

8 minutes later;

"An error occurred during the system software update (4057)

2) Then try to update via USB

Prepare 3.75Gb memory stick, Format to FAT 32. Follow Sony website instructions to the letter, this produces message "Software update is not available in current TV mode"

What mode should the TV be in?
