That was exactly my next suggestion. Just leave the machine to run. When indexing is finished it'll do it as you add things, hence it is almost instant and you don't notice it at all. As i say, leave it you run for a good 30mins/GB of data on the hard disc and then see if you still have the same problem and we can take it from there.

May seem like a random question but does the power light flash?

The reason that i ask is that the most likely cause (other than having a very overactive hard drive) is that the wires have been soldered on the wrong way round. If it is the hard drive then does it ever just flash?

hi matt.
no the power light is on, just as it's supposed to be...the hdd light is also on, but it flickers and i can hear the disc spinning, just doesn't wanna stop.
i've got fully patched vista and norton, but there were no updates available when i checked on vaio update.
it's getting annoying now....

Hi from Germany!

Do You use Vista for the first time? In the first few days Vista has a lot of work with indexing, defragmenting, learning Your preferred software (for pre-starting etc...). Here the activities stopped after about 12 hrs of switched-on PCs without working at (left on over night) and never were seen again in this way...

Martin
