Hi All

Sometimes my VGN-A617s seems to run very hot (although admittedly it tends to be when it's on my bed), and subsequently slow down. Anyway, I've had it nearly a year now and suspect it's time I cleaned its fan etc. Any ideas on how I go about doing this on my model?

Cheers

Me again

Having looked elsewhere on the forums I came across and downloaded the MobileMeter application.

The temperature it gave me was 99 degrees! This was after my laptop had been on my bed, plugged in, for an hour. Ten minutes later it's now on a desk and the temperature has gone down to 89 degrees. HDD reading is 43 degrees.

Could anybody please tell me what these readings actually mean for the health/performance of my laptop?

I suppose I should keep it on a solid surface.

Hi moorey,

As you probably suspect the CPU temperature is far too high even when on the desk. A bed is not the best place for a notebook unless it is placed on a hard flat surface as otherwise air will not circulate sufficiently through the cooling vents.

I suggest that you buy a can of compressed air (sometimes branded as an Air Duster ) and, holding the can upright at a distance of approx. 100mm, direct several jets of air at the cooling vents.

Hopefully a clean will reduce the average working temperature to the mid 50’s C.
