Click to DVD and drive not seen

I have a vaio laptop - AR31 (e?). I wanted to start to use Click to DVD. I was successfull in creating and burning one dvd movie. Next time i went to use it I found a message at the entry screen telling me that it couild not find a drive or it was powered off. I can see my f drive if I put a blank dvd in it and use explorer but Click to DVD does not seem to see the drive.

I did have nero 7 installed on a trial basis and it ran out that same day - could it be some thing to do with it? I thought that the vaio camne with DVD writing s/w and that would have been enough. Any help gratefull.

Click To DVD is IMHO a waste of time.

Your computer's running Vista? You should have Windows DVD Maker somewhere on the Start Menu. I thought it was pretty good for a basic program. It's best if you set up your film or whatever in Windows Movie Maker first though - you can edit it and add effects etc - and double check the aspect ratio before you click the DVD button. It's awful waiting for a couple of hours only to discover you set the wrong aspect ratio and the disc is effectively useless.

If you want to burn xVid or DivX type files download the Vista Codec Pack first. Only install what you need to though. Installing unnecessary codecs can make it hard to figure out what's gone wrong in the unlikely event of something going wrong.

Evening Jumbles,

If you are using DV Video then I tend to agree with you but if you are trying to import analogue video from a VHS or Video8 source then Click to DVD is a real star. It is simply the easiest way to convert your old VHS tapes to DVD.

Hi Graham H and welcome to Club Vaio.

I'm afraid I don't know a simple answer - perhaps someone else knows.

In 'Computer', is your drive F:\ shown as a DVD-RW drive or as a CD-RW drive? It is possible that Nero has stopped it being recognised as a DVD drive.

If it is shown as a DVD-RW drive then I think you will have to reinstall Click to DVD.

Let us know what is shown and that will give us an idea which way to go.

I've never tried recording analogue video and now it's too late. All my analogue tapes are ruined by being stored in a 'dry' garage. Then again I haven't owned a VCR in 6 years!

I just found Click To DVD to be too unreliable. I spent two hours compiling home movies of when my nephew came to stay and it just quit on me. Didn't even give me an error message! And when I tried using it to burn DVR-MS files it spends 2 hours encoding the gives a 515 error.

I'm dual booting at the moment so I can use the Vista Movie and DVD Maker programs. I've tried copying them over to the XP partition but apparently they're not valid Win32 Applications.
