How the hell do you install the registry patch 20060210

This has to be one of the most stupidest things ever.

Every time I start up XP MCE I get the Vaio update telling me to install this stupid patch. it never works and just eventually drives you mad!

Also, why does the amazing Vaio update keep popping up when there are NO NEW UPDATES!

Totally stupid!

Also, why doesn't the pathetic forum search work? Maybe Sony isn't paying for any website maintenance. Just trying to sell more stuff!

Not impressed at all!

Hi kinetic_flight,

What model Vaio do you have..?

I'm not sure if this will allow you to install the patch..

Downloaded the registry patch 20060210 from Vaio-Link , then go to the folder that you contains the Vaio-update file registry patch 20060210

Then extract the files, something like win-Rar should enable you to do this, once extracted click and run the set-up.exe file..

I have a AR21S with XP MCE 2005.

I have tried what you have said several times even with WinRAR. I am not a newcomer.

I can see the console window appear saying that it discovered the driver and installed the registry patch ok. It then prompts yes or no for a reboot.

I say yes and then Vaio-update still pops on the next start-up saying that I need to install the patch.

If I press the update the button on vaio update it will do the same and reboot, but then it will come up again say that the update failed and I have to do a manual update.

It just has you going round and round and round in circles. Very, very stupid indeed!

Also, if I do a search on these forums for "20060210" or anything else distinctive of the problem, I get ZERO RESULTS!

So, there are at least TWO things wrong here. The patch and the forum search.

All these problems (most of which I have fixed myself) are wasting a lot of my time. I didn't have any problems with my old HP laptop.

Hi kinetic_flight,

From what you have said I would suspect that the patch has been installed..

If this is the case & you want to resolve the issue of the update remaining in Vaio-Update site then you will need to contact vaio-link to explain that the Vaio update site does not recognise the fact that the updates been installed..

As to the search function as I mentioned in your other post I can totally understand your frustration with the search function not working, fellow Vaio users like myself will try to offer solutions when possible, however official technical support can always be sought by contacting Vaio-Link ..

Many thanks for your friendly replies, they are greatly appreciated.

I think you are right about the Vaio update probably being at fault here.

But the patch does not even say what it is fixing? That would also help to determine if it is installed ok.

I will contact Vaio support and then post the result here.

I think it is a number one priority to get that search working too. Or are they deliberately not letting it work?

It should find "20060210", but it gets NO RESULTS as usual.

Looks like this has finally been fixed by the amateurs/hackers in Sony support (probably by mistake).

Apparently, the Sony rep was still telling me they are hard at work trying to fix it, weeks after the symptom had stopped.

Hard at work eh?

Cough, cough.

Sound very erm, organised? factual?

Now for the next set of problems. I've had this laptop for 6 months and there is still lots of shoddy Sony stuff to fix.

Absolute joke! Never buy a Vaio again!
