If i take one chip out, it registers 256mb and not the 512. It was a simple case of non-compatible memory! I ended up buying some online from a site called <A href="http://www.offtek.co.uk" target="_blank">www.offtek.co.uk</A> They had a proper search engine and rather than a "100% compatible" claim (which turned out not to be true!), it came up with specific memory for the model.
