S1 & S2 buttons

After a fresh install of Windows 7 my AR81M works excellent; following the instructions given here even the FN-buttons functions OK.

All but S1 & S2. How/where do I find the way to instruct these useful buttons?

You can set the assignments for the S1 & S2 buttons in All Programs -> VAIO Control Centre. There is a window for setting the assignments.

Alternatively you can press and hold the button and it should take you direct to this setting window.

I cannot find 'VAIO Control Centre' in 'All Programs' and nor can I find it in the download list.
I downloaded and installed 'Vaio Original Function Settings'; no result.

Where are you trying to download from?

I cannot find a model with the designation AR81M on the European download site.

I think you need to go to the 'Originally Installed' Tab and download the 'Original Utilities Package' and install the Utility programs enclosed which incluse Vaio Control Centre.
