problems with creating recovery discs

Hello,
I just got a Sony Vaio Notebook VPCW12M1E and would like to create some recovery discs. Unfortunately, it's not equipped with a built-on optical disc drive and Iwas wondering if I can use a memory stick or external hard drive instead but it looks like my vaio does not allow me to to this...

Has anyone had the same problem or know whatI could do?

I've have received exactly the same PC for Christmas, and I have the same problem. I would like to buy the recovery DVD, but it seems not possible ....

If I don't find how to buy the DVD, I will have to buy an external DVD ....

It's abnormal not to have the recovery DVD with the PC ....

In order to create a set of recovery disc's you'll need to purchase an external cd/dvd drive..

welcome to Club VAIO..

You should be able to purchase a set of recovery disc's via Vaio support, to find contact details for Sony Vaio support..

Open Vaio support, either by clicking Support at the top of this page or use the following link:Vaio support

Under Log-in option 2: Select your VAIO model, next to Select Model Category - Select your model from the drop down list, in your case VPCW.

Then next to Select Model - select VPCW12M1E

Then click Log-In

Once logged select Get In Touch.

However you may find it cheaper to purchase an exteran CD/DVD drive..

thanks a lot for your reply and advice, although it just seems mad to see this is the way to do it...
I was too considering to buy the recovery cd from the website but it looks like it maybe better to buy the external cd/dvd thing.

I wish to make recovery discs too for my brand new NW20EF. I am new to all this so could you tell me how many cds I will need. The ones I have are 700mb each. Can I do this on the laptop without buying anything else?

Hi daveeeuk,

normally Vaio owners use 2 DVD's when creating a set of recovery disc's, usually DVD+R discs by Verbatim, TDK or Sony seem to the popular choice.
