before installing windows7, I wanted to make recoverydisks. When I started the program to do so, after 8 minutes it said: "not able to write the disk". This happened both with the -R dvd as with the +R dvd (as the sony helpdesk adviced me to do). Anyone familiar with this problem and has a solution?

Hi icufrans and welcome.

I am afraid that this is a fairly common problem as notebook drives can be very fussy on media, but usually a different brand of media solves it.

I personally use Verbatim, but others have also recommended TDK and Sony Disks.

My Vaio is VGN-AWJ15-B.

I have not tried e different brand yet, will do so soon and will let you know.
Is it also possible to use a CD instead of a DVD?

could you confirm the Vaio you have please, as I can't find reference to a VGN-AWJ15-B, did you buy it in Europe.?

Sorry for that, couldn't read my ownhandwriting, it's
VGN-AW315-B bought it in Amsterdam.

My recoverycenter says I need to use an DVD LD. I didn't use this kind of DVD's.
Ï found some Sony DVD's, they did not work either but they were not DVD LD. (What is the difference?)

DVD LD could be referring to DVD DL (Dual layer).

I normally use TDK DVD+R when creating recovery disc's, however as Rich912 pointed out Verbatim and Sony also normally work ok..

Finally I succeeded! I bougth dual layer disk's and afters everal refusels: "can not write the disk" I kept on trying and now I have my recovery disk's.
Next step is to install windows 7 tomorrow.

Something to think about - Once you've installed windows 7 you could purchase something like Acronis True Image and use this to create and store a backup image, use the following link for more information on: Acronis True Image

Depending on what you have created a backup of, you could restore your the Operating system, applications, user settings, and all your personal data in the event of a fatal system crash or virus attack to as it was when you created the image..
