How to retrieve Serial Number

Hi,

My VGN-FE41M was stolen one week ago.
I was told that it is possible to locate it by tracking its serial number.
I have never written down the serial number in a paper, but I have registered my Laptop on Sony Support website and on VAIO Club.
1- How can I retrieve the Serial Number?
2- Does any one know the way to track a laptop by its serial number?

Hi Elamir,

you should be able to find your serial number using the following link: Vaio registration page ..

I'm sorry to read that your Vaio has been stolen, once you reported the theft to the Police.?

- the serial number of your stolen VAIO..
- a copy of the police report (make sure the serial number of your Vaio appears on the report)..
- contact details of the police department handling the theft..

Once you have reported your Vaio to the Police and have the required information above contact Sony Vaio-support, using the following link: Vaio-Link, to report your VAIO as stolen, then they can place your Vaio onto the stolen database ..

Also it may be worth checking your contact details are correct as Sony may wish to contact you, you can check your contact details using the following link: registration details..

Now I have a hope to get my VAIO back!
I am not sure if a police report in arabic will be useful, and of course the SN was not mentioned in the report because I didnt have it at the time when I reported the case, but I am sure I can prove it to Sony by other supporting documents.

my sony vaio notebook was stolen last sunday, i know the serial number, is there a possibilty of getting it back or tracking it?

Hi matchstickmann,

Sorry to hear that you Vaio has been stolen.

Tracking is not an option but you do stand a better chance of getting it back if you follow Thalamus’s advice (above) and report the theft to Vaio Link.

Hi matchstickmann,

I'm sorry to read that your Vaio has been stolen, the links have changed slightly since I posted the above reply (there isn't actually a link for reporting stolen Vaios)..

However the process is basically the same..

Once you have reported your Vaio to the Police and have the required information below...

- the serial number of your stolen VAIO..
- a copy of the police report (make sure the serial number of your Vaio appears on the report)..
- contact details of the police department handling the theft..

You will need to contact Sony Vaio-support, open Vaio support, either by clicking Support at the top of this page or use the following link:Vaio support

Under Log-in option 2: Select your VAIO model, next to Select Model Category - Select your model from the drop down list. ie VGN AW

Then next to Select Model - ie AW21S/B

Then click Log-In

Once logged select Get In Touch

Also it may be worth checking your contact details are correct as Sony may wish to contact you, you can check your contact details using the following link: registration details ..

Thanks alot for the info. It was really helpful, I already have contacted them through support link. One more thing, at the time of police report i didnt have serial number wiith me, but it does mention the series SZ. My notebook was VGN-SZ71MN/B and was very expensive, so trying my best to get it back.

Hi,

my VAIO got stolen a couple of days ago. I dont know the serial number of it but I registered it online. I have my login credentials but I dont know where to retrieve the serial number from to report it to the police and how to "block" it through VAIO support.

Any help will be highly appreciated!

Hi sanv,

Contact Support (via tab at the top of this page) and give them your registered name and email address. Explain that your Vaio has been stolen and they should then be able to email your serial number to you.
