Why is Volume so low on Blu Ray?

Can anyone help me, why is the volume so low when i play a blu ray disc? I can hardly hear the movies, i need to listen via a set of headphones. Surely this can not be right

Any ideas or help would be great

Hello,
Have you tried watching a movie in DVD format? Is the sound louder?
As far as I know the blu-ray movies have low sound because they are encoded so. If they are played through a home theatre the sound experience is much richer due to the surround sistem.

ah that may explain it then. The volume is louder when playing DVD or lsitening to music. Still not very loud but much better volume. Thank you
