PCV-RS502 LAN connection freezes

Hello,
I own a PCV-RS502. Everything seems fine, but I frequently get the same problem.
After some hours of uptime, my LAN connection freezes.:smileyconfused:
I've got 2 PC's connected to the Internet through an ADSL Router (configured via DHCP).
Whereas of of them is still able to view web pages, my VAIO can't. So I guess it comes from the computer.

I can still ping websites ang get responses, hear music through shoutcast, but my browser can't open any webpage (despite the two PCs get the same DNS from the ADSL modem) .
-I tried to reboot my ADSL router,
-I tried another browser (Firefox),
-I switched off my firewall,
-I tried to restart the windows network service,
it didn't work.
The only thing that works is to reboot the computer...:smileycry:

Can anyone help me ?

How about updating the firmware of the router?

Since upgrading to SP2, I have never had this problem again.

The firmware is the latest (1.405) and the modem-router (Netgear DG824M) still works with another computer.

TygerTyger : So you had this problem too ??
(I wish I could not have to install SP2 ).
I've done every other update on windowsupdate.

I don't think there is as much wrong with SP2 as the anti-microsoft brigade are hyping, I haven't seen anyone come to the forum with a problem about it yet. Have you updated the Wireless LAN card driver as well? I'd really recommend installing SP2 if you can stomach it, after making the appropriate backups first. It seems to solve quite a lot of wireless issues.

Despite I am not an active member of the anti-microsoft brigade, I would like to wait some more time before installing SP2. (Allowing me for instance to back-up everything and to see if problems appear...)

I didn't point it out clearly before, but I am connected to the modem-router through the network card of my VAIO and not with a wireless card or usb device.

I know wireless connectivity is not yet truly reliable.

The router worked well with my older computer. I'll check Sony-update to see if there are some chipset-updates for my motherboard...

Oops you did indeed point it out clearly, my bad. In that case I'm sorry to say I'm as lost as you, I'd try the router support site rather than the Vaio support site, they may know of some compatibility issues.

you seem rather cautious, wait for wireless and SP2. I think your patience is good, I have never been very good at waiting and have both.

I would imagine your ethernet card came with the computer, have you considered buying a netgear one to maximise compatability - I would imagine there would be more support from netgear for an ethernet card.

Alternatively take the Netgear wireless g route and then SP2, ou won't be disappointed.

I too am having problems with Netgear wireless equipment (ref: my query posted tonight) - they claim the solution is to uninstall SP2!

I have both wireless A and G Netgear access points running on my Netgear network with no problems.

As I explained in another post installing a PCI wireless card in a computer with Netgear utilities did cause a problem but just installing the drivers and allowing SP2 to control the settings was fine.

I have a Netgear modem, Netgear A access point, Netgear G access point, Netgear router, Netgear hub and a Netgear print server all running under SP2

I obviously like Netgear!

Its not all doom and gloom try letting SP2 handle the wireless settings.

Hi all !

I am connected to my router with a RJ45 wire. I use the built-in RJ45 port of my motherboard.
My computer is running XP home SP1a.

The problems I encounter are not wireless related, except that my router has this feature ; but I actually don't use it frequently because my computer and my router are very close.

Now I am *waiting*:smileytongue: for my problem to reappear.
I want to try putting IP addresses directly in my browser instead of names to check if it's a DNS problem.
Else I'll try to add another network card to my computer to determine where does the problem come form...

[Now two days since the last "crash".] Thank you for your help.:smileygrin:

NB : I know it's not the point here, but don't hesitate to correct my sentences, I would be glad to learn more about the english language.
