topic RX644 - Replacement (upgraded) DVD+/-RW? in PCs & Accessories

My much upgraded Vaio RX644 (Geforce 6800, second 120GB Hard Drive, additional 512MB RAM, Aoundblaster Live 5.1 audio) is well out of warranty and this isn't a plea for repair support.

However, I would like to replace the original Sony DW-U12A DVD RW and Asus CD s400/A CD ROM with a more modern (dual layer) DVD RW and DVD ROM drive respectively. Simple you may say .... only I would also like to retain the original drive bezels and DVD/CD tray face-plates so as not to 'ruin' the Vaio look.

Does anyone know whether you can remove the Sony drive bezels and tray face-plates without damage? And if so, whether there is a brand/make/model of DVD RW (dual layer) and DVD ROM which will accept them?

Bit of an obtuse query, but grateful for any informed recommendations.

Thanks in advance
