VAIO wireless fails to connect

Hi all,

Got a strange issue with my A197VP. I have a Buffalo 11g access point that lots of other devices can use with no problems, except my vaio. Every time I turn the wireless access on and try to access the AP, it fails. Sometimes it can't even see the AP, but most of the time if finds the AP and asks for the WEP key. I give it the key, it does nothing then tells me "New wireless networks have been found". It does this over and over, asking for the WEP key then failing to connect. I know it's not a fault with the Buffalo because other devices connect fine. I know I'm typing the key correctly, and I know how to set up the AP for devices.

So, what have I missed on the Vaio? Why does it refuse to connect to anything other than a totally open AP (no WEP, no WPA and it connects, but I don't exactly want that)?

All help appreciated, thanks.

Definitely not a firewall preventing it.

Encryption is dependant on WEP key length, I've tried 5 and 10 (ASCII). There is something on the VAIO preventing the connection from working. Any further ideas?

SSID is correct, XP wireless network system detects it when searching for networks. I verified and typed it manually too just in case.

I don't understand why the VAIO refuses to connect to the AP... Any further ideas?

Controlling the login? You mean, an extra set of Buffalo client software to access the AP? In which case, no, I only use the Windows wireless system and I haven't installed anything else.

I'm leaning towards a problem with the wireless card drivers not submitting/communicating properly, but I have no way to track it down. Windows detects the AP correctly, other machines with different wireless cards connect correctly, just the VAIO refuses.
