Modem problem.

Hello All

My Vaio K315B keeps having modem problems.
The line disconnects and when I try to redial I get a "The line is busy" message, when the line isn't busy.
When I query the modem I get the message that Com3 is in use by another application.
When I check for running applications that use com 3 I can't find anything.
The only way to clear the modem seems to be to restart the computer.

Does anyone know what the problem/solution is?

First of all, check for spyware, these nasty dialers can often use your 56k modem to dial up all sorts.

The best are Spybot S&D from www.safer-networking.org and AdAware from lavasoft.de

Thanks for your reply.

I use ad-aware se after every modem net session.
Will spybot pick up anything that Ad aware does not?

My modem doesn't seem to be being used by a third party as I get dial tone when I check the line.

Any other thoughts as to what the problem/solution could be?

Yes Spybot does find other things Adaware doesn't find, and visa versa.

I had a similar problem with a modem, I had to exchange it as it was dying

Thanks for your help.

I also thought that I've just got the symptoms of a dying modem.
However, I only bought this Vaio K315B five months ago.

How can I find out if others have had problems with the modem in the K315B?
Is there a service centre I can take it to so they can check it out or do I have to send it away for weeks?

The LCD X black screen is excellent but going a bit yellow at the bottom edges.

If anyone does have a similar problem, hopefully they will be kind and post about it.

The VAIO would need to go away for repairs, can take up to 10 working days.
