Hi I was wondering if anybody could help me...

I have a PCG-Z1RMP notebook, and I recently got a DMTECH tv with PC connection by one of those serial port wires. I connected my VAIO to the TV with great success, I could use the TV as a monitor for my VAIO.
I was really happy, until it came time for me to try and watch my video-camera movies and DVDs which aren't originals so I watch them on my laptop. Whenever I try to play video files, a blank screen is shown, although the functions for windows media player are there, and when mp3 files are played, the display screen with swirling things and that show up.
Also, my VAIO Flash player desktop background works, and video files is the only thing.

Please help me!!!

BTW, my laptop does not have a TV port, only speakers, mic, usb and monitor serial port. that's it.

You need to set the external monitor/TV as the primary display. You can find this option in the display properties (right click a blank area of desktop then left click properties)
