You cannot solve your problem. It's a fabrication issue that each sony vaio has and that Sony won't recognize. There is plenty of forums out there describing this problem:

http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/5449/

http://forums.whatpc.co.uk/thread.jsp?forum=21&thread=45385

The problem is that the memory slot soldering is faulty, so it will stop working after a random amount of time. People is using the strangest workarounds, like pieces of wood or paper under the memory cover, in such a way that the memory slot is pressed on the motherboard. But this is just temporary...

There is a petition on line and also a Class Action (in US) is under consideration. The problem is so big and interests such a big slice of Sony users, that an independent company is born to fix these issues at prices lower than Sony's!!! It is

www.vaioshutdown.com

Needless to say, I also have the same problem, I talked with the assistance and they don't recognize it as a fabrication problem, so they want around 80 ¿ JUST to tell me how much the reparation will cost! The solution is naturally the motherboard substitution that I estimate between 700 and 900 ¿. Just not worth!

Is anyone from Sony looking at this post and willing to give some answers? Thanks
