A6700 firmware 2.0 killed my wildlife setup – "WiFi only" option removed

Hi all,

I just updated my A6700 from 1.03 to 2.0 hoping for better Creators’ App stability, as promised in the release notes. What wasn’t mentioned anywhere: the “WiFi only” connection via the trash can icon is now completely gone.

As a wildlife photographer, I rely on setting up my camera remotely—sometimes over 100m away—to photograph shy species.

My workflow was: place the camera, go to the "Smartphone Connection" screen, hit the trash can to instantly start the WiFi hotspot, connect my repeater, and control everything (including live view) from a camouflaged distance using the Creators’ App on a tablet.

Now, with 2.0, you can only start WiFi via Bluetooth/app pairing, which basically kills any long-range or repeater-based setup.

Is there any workaround for this?

I'm pretty big invested in this setup with a remote controlled pan/tilt head, a portable "WiFi Tower" with directional antennas and i even built a camera rover.

As it stands, i can't use any of that anymore.

Really frustrated that Sony didn’t mention this change at all.

Ich war offensichtlich verwirrt als ich das Thema aufgemacht habe. Daher jetzt gern auf Deutsch:

Ja, das Firmware Update 2.0 hat ein Feature gefressen, was sich wiederum auf meinen Workflow ausgewirkt hat.

Verändern oder entfernen von UI Elementen darf man ruhig im Changelog erwähnen.

Jetzt war ich gezwungen zur Erkenntnis zu kommen, dass mein Workflow zwar funktionierte, aber keineswegs der einzige zu sein scheint geschweige denn der richtige.

Die Menüs bleiben in dieser Hinsicht holprig.

Die Lösung ist ein Access Point zwischen Kamera und Endgerät. Im Netzwerk/WiFi Menü diesen als Zugriffspunkt definieren. Danach kann man ebenfalls in Netzwerk/WiFi /WiFi Aktivieren das Wlan togglen wie man es vom Smartphone kennt und die Kamera verbindet sich zukünftig automatisch mit dem Access Point. Am besten über Flugmodus kontrollieren als shortcut.

Auf dem Endgerät dann die Creators App öffnen, zweiter Tab Kameras aufrufen, oben rechts übers Zahnrad ins Menü und Nur über WiFi verbinden folgen.
