Slow charging with better Sony cable (UCB20 vs UCB30)

Hello guys,

I compared these two cables:

UCB30 with charging output upto 15,0 V / 3,0 A

UCB20 with charging output upto 12,0 V / 3,0 A

So I decided to upgrade UCB20 cable which came together with UCH12 charger (with XZ1 phone) and purchased UCB30 which is faster in terms of data transfer and should charge faster as well.

But from 70% of the battery charging with UCB20 phone says 30 minutes to 100% and with UCB30 1h 50m.

What´s the problem here, can anyone explain, please?

You must measure the actual time that each cable take to charge, what the phone indicates is just an estimate having several things in account and may show different values another time.

Well, that was wierd to me at this time. I left phone with new cable to be charged. After a decend time phone should be charged I saw there is still 30% remaining. And that was the time I started to find answer why is that..

It seems u can use UCB20 cable only so UCH12 works in QC mode.

Both cables should charge at the same time (using the same charger), UCB30 is just specific for high data transfer rates.

Hi @flo1962;

There is absolutely no diference between the UCH12 or UCH12W fast chargers, the diference is the cables that come with them, the UCH12 brings a USB-A to USB-MicroB cable and UCH12W brings both (USB-A to MicroB and USB-A to USB-C(UCB20)).

Hi again,my XZ1 comes with uch 20 and ucb 20 but next week arrive at me a fast charger uch12w and then I can telling you how is.uch20 cable is type C.

In my case they don´t. I have two UCB30 cables so I double checked this. Regarding the manual on page 3:

When charging a device with the Quick Charger UCH12W, always use the UCB20 USB Type-C™ cable or the UCB11 Micro USB cable that was included with the charger at purchase.

I don't have that cable so I can not make the test but it is pure electricity, the UCB30 handles a maximum of 15V/3A (https://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/accessories/usb-type-c-cable-ucb30/) and the maximum power of the UCH12 is 12V/1,35A(https://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/accessories/quick-charger-uch12w/specifications/).

Is the charger that makes the fast charge, not the cable (it just has to handle it), unless they are advertising false values.

I don´t know why the charger switch from normal charging to QC 3.0 when connected via attached UCB20 only..

There are more things I don´t underestand tbh. UCB30 is the USB 3.1 Gen 2 cable capable 10 Gb/s but phone has only USB 3.1 Gen 1 (which I underestand doesn´t matter - it will just work 5 Gb/s).

Is there someone else who can confirm me the same results with UCB30 cable?

but the XZ1 owns a USB-C port.

you can't use the UCB11 cable.

Yes,there are two chargers,UCH12 and UCH12W. First is with UCB11,second with UCB20(type C) cables.

actually there is only one charger : its name is UCH12.

UCH12W is a pack which contains the quick charger UCH12 et two cables UCB11 (micro USB) & UCB20 (USB type C).

I think the 'W' in 'UCH12W' stands for Wire(s).
