Difficulties getting old backup data to new phone

So, I thought it would be a simple thing to do - But no.

I had a Xperia ZR (with Lolipop) and bought myself a Z3 compact. Before I resetted my ZR and made a backup using the backup program that the phone has in it, not PC companion. The result was a nice 800mb file on the SD-card, with all the apps, messeges, contacts and so on on it. So far so good. The major problem starts when I was about to resett all my old data to my new phone, using the exact same program on the Z3 compact. It can´t find the file at all, there is no option in restoring my old data in that app "backup & restore". All files are there in a map called ´.semc-fullbackup´ but the app can´t obviously do anything with it.

A little help would be much appriciated!

P.S my Sony ZR is sold, so no luck there..

Unfortunately backup files created can only be restored to the same phone, since phones can differ quite a bit.

You can however try the option called "Xperia transfer" in PC Companion. Here you can choose to import a "Xperia backup from my computer". This options can in most cases extract the information from the backup file to your new phone.

So the only option I got is to get my old phone back and restore it, or a different xperia ZR? Because the transfer option requiers that I got the old phone to make the transfer.

There should be another option except for the one which requires the old phone found at Xperia transfer > Sony/Sony Ericsson device > Xperia backup from computer.

In that option it tells me that no copy of a backup can be found! Is it possible to put the ".semc-fullbackup"-folder somewhere so PC companion can find it? Or is it just able to cope with a .dbk file?

If you have the semc-fullbackup-folder your phone was not updated with the newer Android version required for this to work (the folder system was changed in the later versions). So unfortunately it won't be possible to restore this to the new phone.

Is it possible to downgrade my Z3 compact to 5.0 (Lollipop) and then make the restore with the semc-fullbackup? My ZR had 5.0 at the time a made the backup.
