Lags and crashes after update to Android 5.0.2

My tablet seems to suffer very frequent and severe lags after update to Android 5.0.2.

Could someone perhaps suggest a remedy for this?

Having similar problem, not really crashes. But lots of lag! On low brightness the device is smooth but on brightness above 50% the device starts to stutter, its seem like is throttles. You can really tell when you pull down quick settings very slowly. This can't be a hardware problem as I have gone back to kikkat and on maximum brightness theres no lag. I updated to lollipop again when the ota came out (before I flashed it, so I thought I didnt install it properly) The lag is still there and I have repaied the software and there was no difference and I did lots of factory resets. Please fix this in android 5.1 or a small update it must be a kernal bug

I have a Nexus 7 and it suffers from the same problem since the update to 5.0. Google has released 5.1 which was supposed to fix performance issues but my Nexus on Lollipop 5.1 still has these moments of extreme lag.

To tell the truth I think Google is doing to Android what they have already done to a lot of their applications: change for the sake of change with massive negative impact on usability and performance: see Google Maps... it used to be my trusty companion, now I have dumped it completely, as it is totally unusable. Same goes for Newstand (dumped as well) and many other apps. I suspect Android is quickly going down the same slope.

By default, the brightness level of my device is virtually zero.

Apparently, it is one of the known problems with Lollipop 5.0.2 (http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/01/20/android-5-0-2-problems/).

And the best advice from the Lollipop forum is to skip this update.

To be honest, I do not see any significant improvements in Lollipop 5.0.2, I wonder why I was looking forward to have it upgraded anyway.

How can I roll back to KitKat 4.4.4., factory reset?

@uliwooly Hi, thanks for the links. And yes, I did reinstall Lollipop 5.0.2. It took twice uninstalls and reinstalls PCC, and restarts to connect with my device. Deleted all the cache before reinstallation.

Sofar, after the second attempt, it stops crashing, but it still lags 2 to 3 seconds compared to my Z2 tablet which is still on KitKat 4.4.4. It drained lots of battery before I realised that the WiFi setting was changed a lot, but this problem seems to be gone now. Just the lagging and I miss the option to close all apps at once.

So, yes, your tips helped me, thank you very much. Any tips to reduce or get rid off the lagging?

After a major update there's usually lag the first few days, keep an eye on apps uploading / downloading data and/or auto updating or auto backing up settings, pictures, music, videos.

if you haven't, backup and delete all the texts and call logs > restart your phone.

I have done backups and recovered the back up, deleted the cache and restarted the device for a couple of times now. So, hopefully all will get back to normal quickly.

After updating the tablet terrible lag. This is due to the brightness. If the brightness is worth at a minimum, all running smoothly. If the brightness is close to the maximum appear friezes. Also, if you enabled adaptive brightness, friezes become unbearable.

Faced the same :((( In well illuminated places there are terrible lags.

So, I have to switch off "Adaptive brightness" and reduce overall brightness level...

I also have the brightness problem. Sony seemed to have implemented this to save battery. I personally will like to have a choice!

Similar problem - lag while accessing even the basic apps like contacts... Even more, battery drain is excessive even when no activity and all apps shut down. Any fix available?

I had a similar problem. Wanting to go back to kitkat, I did a factory reset and now the lagging is gone, although I was not able to go back to kitkat.

My plate brakes at maximum brightness, or Auto-brightness is especially true when browsing the main screens. Android 5.0.2, Sony Xperia Tablet Compact Lte 16gb (621)

Is it possible to somehow fix it?
