I just wish to warn other users that unlocking or unblocking their phone from other SIM networks does not always work with the code you order and pay for.

I use the operator 3 in Sweden. I paid for the unlocking code from them ($40) last week for my Xperia Z1 compact, and received the code this week. I'm going to Tanzania tomorrow for a few months, and I wish to use a local SIM card down there for lower data costs.

The unlocking code does not work, not even after updating the phone with all the new software packages.

Now they tell me I have to send the phone to Sony. This is not possible since I'm leaving for Tanzania tomorrow. I will have to buy a pocket wifi or the like in Tanzania instead because of this. So in total, Sony's malfunctioning unlocking code will cost me ~$100 and I'm also still stuck with a network locked phone.

Before you bought the code did you check to see if your phone is hard locked from the service menu?

No, I simply handed my phone to the clerk in the 3 store, and he checked it for me.

It said "Network [5]" and all the others in the list were [0]. He drew the conclusion it should work.

So if it was locked to the 3 network then it is upto that network to provide the unlock code not Sony so I don't understand how this is aimed at Sony when that network is at fault

I cannot say whether Sony or the network is at fault.

I am just repeating what the clerk explained to me. You're saying the network is at fault. You're a moderator here and representative of Sony so your words carry some weight.

Regardless of who's fault it is, the inconvenience is at my end.

It's not up to Sony to provide those codes, it's up to the network, if they made a mistake or messed up somehow is them who are at fault.

Yeah may be you can call 3 again give then all the details and tell them that the code is not working. And that might give another code for no cost.

I will follow your suggestion and call 3 tomorrow, and hope for a more helpful solution that doesn't require me to send the phone to Sony.

Hopefully I will have time to give you a swift reply on the progress.
