alexdon,

Thanks for for trying to help and thatnks for the link, someone has deleted my post about A-GPS and GPS.

I have an Xperia SP (C5303), Android Version 4.3

There seems to be no easy way of selecting between A-GPS and GPS, other than taking the sim card out and forcing the Xperia SP to use GPS, or endlessly going through multiple screens turning things off and then on again.

I find it really limiting and annoying that the phone defaults to A-GPS and thus I have to pay data charges to the carrier to use the maps.

I don’t know if this a Google/Android issue or a Sony issue but the ability to choose between A-GPS and GPS would be most welcomed.

In the meanwhile I have started using an i-pad or a phone without a sim card it uses GPS. It works well even if it is a bit of an inconvenience.

Google/Android and Sony this needs to get fixed.

OFF means OFF.

Have ONE screen that has all the OFF options and variables. I don't want any surprises when I get my bill from the carrier or you run out of credit.

If there is no mobile data allowed, the background data won't start by itself.Only on wi-fi it will be enabled again.

alexdon,

You are wrong

I have an Xperia SP (C5303) Android 4.3 and I have to turn off mobile data and background data off as two separate actions.

Turning mobile data OFF should have sufficent, but it wasn't and money was trickeling away to the carrier.

Why are you so sure I am wrong? On Z1 that does not occur and there is no way to be connected if there is no mobile data connection.

Why are you talking about the Z1 when we are in the SP section?

The issue about mobile data is related to the fact that one is forced to use A-GPS. You turn GPS on, you get a waring that "mabile charges may apply". One thinks they will not be charged becasue mobile data is turned off but still you get charged. IT is a confusing mess.

This problem is also happening on Xperia Z3. I disable mobile data access and restrict background data access but the phone still connects to internet and I'm charged for it. I'm completelly sure that this is a Sony Xperia issue because I'm a former Samsung S5 user and back on it mobile data access was completely blocked when this option was disabled.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks.

I am really sorry to say that my experience with Sony is getting worse day by day and seems there is no solution for them, the wifi does not turn on after updating to 5.0.2 and now I noticed that my phone remains connected to the internet via sim card even if I disable it ...
