Sony xperia z2 body panel cracked / accidental damage warranty

I am writing to inform you of my dissatisfaction with the customer support being provided by Sony India to its Customers.

I had purchased a Sony Xperia Z2 on the 31st of May 2014 and I face a build quality issue with it in 3 months. I did not expect this of a flagship device from Sony. Problem with the device is that the body panel has cracked, right where the Sim Flap is and this has made the sim flap loose thus making the device susceptible to water damage. The cause of panel crack is not known to me as the there is device was not dropped and there is no other sign of physical damage to it. It was noticed cracked by me straight out of the pocket. Pictures are attached for reference

I had to take it to the Service centre within Hyderabad (Universal Electronics) and they inspected the same and told me that nothing can be done about it initially and on my protest and further arguments i was given a service job sheet with a wait time of 10 days. It took me a while to convince the service centre that Sony gives out accidental damage cover along with the phone. I would expect when Sony is giving a Accidental damage cover along with the phone to honour the same when required.

This kind of treatment is unacceptable by any standards. I have happily owned a Apple, Samsung and numerous other devices and never had to go through such harassment. I am extremely unhappy with the happenings. With the situation i am in right now after having paid 48k inrs for a phone to Sony, i expect this to be my first and last Sony device of any sorts.

I sincerely hope Sony India is looking to retain its customers for the future and looks to resolve such major issues.

well brother i too purchased a sony xperia Z2 on 11th of july nd de same thing happened wid my phone its sreen popped when it fell on de ground nd it stopped working nd so i took it to de service centre here in indore ( M.P ) nd they told me dat sir ur phone doesnt cover up any accidental damage warranty nd so ur does not have any guarrantee or warranty nd so ur phone will not be repaired nor it will be replaced under it cuz sony has stopped accidental warranty for de phones purchased after 1st of july even the dealer didnt told me about dat so is it my mistake dat i was not known dat de phone wont cover it up even de dealer didnt knew dat de particular news are out bout dat nd so its like after paying up 48 thousands all we r gng to get is nothing its all thing nd i had been thinking to complain about dis in Upbhogta Forum cuz diss aint our thing to deal with nd others too who have dere phones under accidental damage do replace up ur phones or either join me up nd my number is plzz do contact me up

Thank you for the prompt response Alex!....I have already tried what you have suggested. Emailing which gets me an automated reply and thats the end of it. There is no email or any process listed anywhere where an issue can be escalated to the relevant people there. The people answering the phone calls dont understand it at all as they are only good at reading lines from a script. Its quite frustrating really.

This is the third time I've seen this now, and In my opinion a backward step in quality from the Z1. Where as the Z1 had a full metal bezel, here we have metal segmented with polycarbonate. As handsets get larger, there is the potential for more flex, and with this, the Z2 seems to crack the polycarbonate part of the construction due to it being the weak link (please note also that the handset is no longer waterproof), worst case, you'd be looking at a cracked screen.

I am a Sony user since the old 2000 Sony-Erricson phones and Sony Ericsson mini T150i, these phone were really tough and durable. I bought this new Xperia Z2 yesterday with its battery almost empty. When I went home, I charged this phone and waited about 3 hours but still the phone's battery won't fully charge then suddenly I found some cracks at the back of it without touching it or accidentally dropping it. Until the cracks are now spreading on the glass and it's really disappointing because I saw it on YouTube, the Xperia drop test, the phone works perfectly strong and tough. But mine, I have no idea why my phone got cracked. Please help, I need to get my phone back to its normal state.

HI there, this is just a user support forum and as such we can only offer advice. You really need to take the handset back to where you got it from and take it from there.
