SD card issue with 4.4 is only for writing?

Hi,

I have a Tablet Z and kept it on 4.2 after reading all the complaints about 4.4.

The most worrying for me is the SD card limitation. My question is: what is the limitation exactly? Apps can NOT write to the SD card. But at least they can read. Right?

My usage of SDcard is specific: I put only music and movies on it only (from my PC), and listen/watch them on the tablet. Will this be still possible with 4.4?

Apps can still read files on the external SD card i Android 4.4. They can also write files to the external SD-card but they can only write/modify files in its own folder. Android 4.4 restricts apps so that they can't write, delete or modify files in folders that belongs to another app on the external SD.

but what about big Apps such as games?

Since 4.4.2 I'm not able to install new Games or map for Navigon! The sd card is almost empty!

Is there no way to move apps to sd ?

As long as the app supports it, it can write and save files to the external SD but it's up to the app where it saves it's data.
You can't move the app itself to the external SD card but in most cases, it's not the app that's taking up alot of space, it's the data downloaded/saved by the app and it's the app that determines where that data is saved.

This is not a real option, because when loosing the app, the data disappears too.

And perhaps that even happens after upgrading the app too.

The only thing that works is ROOTING.

if I can do it, everybody can do it.

And if doing it the right way, you can go back for services.

And if everybody is doing it, it is a wakeup call for Sony, that we want to use OUR sd card the way WE want.

And not the way Google has decided without us.

The best option we had is to use apple product which I made big mistake by using Sony and android, only 1 advantage you guys had was flexibility on external memory but now even with half price of this tab is worthless.

You can't compare apps in apple store and android out of 10 in android 2 are good to use with good resolution and rest are useless and stuck.

Sony please send me your address so I'll send you your tab for free as charity... Because all my work I had in the sd memory I can't modify only save new file in useless tab...

If I thought that an iPad would be a real better solution, I would buy one tomorrow.

When everyone bought a Windows (MS DOS) I choose a better option from Apple: a Macintosh.

It had a price of a small car!

I never regret that choice one day.

Several Macs later, things have changed.

S.J. f*cked up everything, where design was everything, and usability was less important.

Fortunately the OS(X) was the best, because it was based on NEXT OS.

Nowadays the Apple hardware is sealed with glue, and the OSX is going to the clouds.

The ios is a closed system, and the late S.J. still lays down all the rules for the users.

So the iPad will never be yours until you jailbreak.

And with Android KitKat it is going in the same direction.

The problem is that there isn't a solution with an other tablet.

They are all worse.

And Google knows this!

But if we all jailbreak our Sony perhaps someone wakes up at Sony 's upper management.

I really hope so!

Otherwise we all are forced to go into clouds too.

And then Google gets even more information about everything we do on are tablets and in our lifes.

Managing the files on SD-card by connecting tablet to PC sounds so complecated. That is the case, if you want to organize photos to several directories (albums). Or music files or text documents.

Is there any chance to downgrade back to 4.2?
