Z1 Compact - Wakes up late

Hello All

When I press the power button to wake up my phone ( turn screen on )

It takes a while (say 6-10 seconds ) . I had my phone for a week now. I exprienced this issue onlys yesterday.

however, If i turn my phone off then on again, the problem is temporarly fixed.

any ideas about what's goin on ?

I have the same problem.

The phone was delivered on 31st January, and after 6 days of use, the power button was just really slow at waking up the screen.

I brought the handset back to the shop and they gave me a new one, that was on 10th Feb.

Again after about 7 days of use, the button is doing the same on the replaced handset.

Initially I thought the button just wasn't working, but now i think it looks to be a slow response from the software, especially now that I have seen it on 2 handsets.

It's a very annoying issue, I've missed calls because of it.

Another issue is the sensor on the front has stopped working too. So I also hang up on people with my face, if im lucky, my face presses the hold button, so i can still get the call back.

Do you have stamina mode enabled?

Hi alexdon,

Thanks for your suggestion, I had stamina mode turned on. I've swtiched it off though now and still seems to be a lag from when i press the button to when the screen wakes up.

Oh- it's a big lag, at least 5 seconds.

Hello alexdon

the first time this happened my phone was one Stamina mode. I stwitched off stamina mode and turned my phone off and on.

after about 18 hrs i had the same issue, I had to swtiched my phone off and on again and it's been 12 hrs now

without any problems .

The phone needs restarting regularly(for the RAM memory to refresh and for Android to work better).But you might have some task killers or battery savers that slow down your phone.

MY flat mate got this phone and has the exact problem, there is a massive random lag when pressing the power button to when the screen comes on. Its a stock phone from the store with no modifications and minimal apps so I'd say it's a software bug and Sony need to look into it.

An NO, you sholdn't have to restart your phone regulary if the software has been written properly and been thoroughly tested.

I have exactly the same problem which has only tonight appeared - exactly one week after taking delivery of my Z1 Compact.

Pressed the power button while in lock mode and it took 8-10 seconds to wake. This happened each time I tried waking it and after the 5th or 6th time I restarted it. After the restart it worked fine again, but I can se this becoming annoying if it's going to randomly need a reboot every few days. A modern piece of equipment like this SHOULD NOT need a reboot to to clear the RAM!

Can Sony please investigate this?

Any Android device needs restarting to clear RAM.Do you have the setting that power button ends call?

Well my previous Android phones (HTC & Samsung) have all managed to operate perfectly well WITHOUT requiring a weekly reboot. Would you care to explain how they managed that? I think my last HTC probably went months and months at a time without getting switched off and on.

And if it DOES require it, wouldn't it be nice if the manual, or the software indicated this? Maybe a little pop-up advising you to restart to mainain full functionality? Rather than just failing to properly complete basic tasks...

For an optimal performance(just like a PC),it needs rebooting.But of course,you are not forced to do it.

This is nonsense and you know it., Modern OS's should have no need to reboot. And if it's such an issue then it should be clearly stated

Yet another Mod on this forum dismissing an obvious bug with Sony products by being an arrogant **bleep**

I suggest you control yourself,this kind of attitude is not tolerated.Just keep any kind of Android device without restarting for a long period of time,you will see the performance drops a lot.And I am only trying to help,if you do not want my advice,leave it.

I am using Fast Reboot app to clear the RAM ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatbytes.fastreboot&hl=en ) and it helps a lot, the wake up problem appears very rarely. Also, this has been discussed previously ( http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1-Compact/Power-button-problem/td-p/556595 ), so it's a general issue, not just a faulty piece. However, I have no idea if this continues on 4.4 KK, I'm still using 4.3 JB.

Attitude of calling you out for getting all condescending like all the other mods on here?

'Oh that's not a bug, you have to do this' is such a standard answer on this board and usually it's just nonsense to cover up...bugs. I genuinely wish I hadn't given Sony another chance with this phone.

My phone routinely does this whether it has recently rebooted or not. I counted 15 seconds the other day, 25 minutes after a reboot. This is a 2 month old phone...with barely anything on it because Sony Bridge is too much of a pile of crap to allow that to work properly either.

Android is a Unix based operating system, not like a PC

I had the same problem, phone would be extremely slow to.wake up, screen wouldn't come on after a call to allow me to hang up etc... phone was barely functional.

Solution:
I deleted a number of widgets from the home pages and I think the source of the problem was a widget which showed recent photos and videos. Seems to have restored phone to its original speed.

[Solve For Me] I had exactly the same problem BUT it solved completely after I go to Settings>Display>untick the "Adaptive Brightness" which function is "Optimize brightness level for available lights"

Now it show up right after I pressed the Power Button. Hope it help you too..
