I have had the same problem and grateful that there is a work around...but this appears to be an ongoing feature of the Z series, even the Compact. Now, I love my z1 and can live with this unsettling bug but what i really find disturbing is that Sony has not responded or that anyone hasput forward why this fault happens or when it may become terminal. Nothing worse than uncertainty. Any thoughts on how this issue can be, if not soled, at leat explained?

Uliwooly, I have not had the problem since on the Z1 however as of last week was forced to gave up on the phone because it has steadily lost its ability to charge through its miniusb port. The magnetic connection worked perfectly. The replacement is a Z3 and hoping that it was, as you suggest, specific to that particular phone with its electrical issues

Already am! Walking through Spain on the Camino. Z3 is my electronic Swiss Army knife working as a more-than-adequate camera, diary, calendar, news source, courier, booking agent, translator, library and torch. A worthy, hard-working sucessor to my faithful Z1 with fewer vices, enormous storage capacity, better WiFi and phone range. Any criticisms I have are aimed at improving an 'amazing' and mature product, much underrated by the technology press..
