xperia Z1 speakers

Hi yah. I have a question before planning to buy this Z1, my recent phone is Xperia Z, and im disappointed by its loudspeaker.

How's the Z1 speaker have been so far? are there any improvements?

I do't expect the loud speaker to be a lot different than the Xperia Z or Z Ultra

It's much louder as i've gathered from this comparison on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXydSEFLaKs when you have time you can check it out.

it will be interesting to compare the loud speaker with the X10, Xperia Arc, Xperia S, Xperia T and of course Xperia Z and Z1

All Sony's flagship phones.

To increase the sound from the internal speaker a bit more you can enable xLOUD under Settings -> Sound -> Sound effects -> Sound enhancements -> Settings.

haven't heard Z so cannot compare but with my poor hearing Z1 sounds loud enough; not sure what do you expect but I can hear speach and music quite fine. Of course, if you are expecting sound of a propert speaker, I haven't heard that from any of teh phones; so far, compared to 3-4 different phones I had, Z1 sounds OK and loud enough; why not pop down to any phone shop and compare with your phone?

@GeoffH too bad you don't have an Xperia Arc to compare it with, as I think its one of the loudest Xperias.

Ya . . .The Speakers on Z1 are not that loud. But the sound is enough if you are just siiting inside a silent room. Some improvement in loundness though updates would be highly aprreciated.

The built in speaker is poorly constructed. It is not loud enough - perhaps a design problem with water proofing? There can be no bass breathing, as the internals are air proof. Just guessing.
I would give the built in speaker a 7/10.

The head phone sound is pathetic. It is way under driven. A song or movie with la medium to low level audio level is unenjoyable. There is no bass to enjoy. As soon as any song has audio levels, or equalisation is used to pump up bass levels, it DISTORTS.

So phones get a 6/10. They DISTORT as PROGRAMMED. AN app with a preamp can push any audio signal up to the point of "clipping" (that is when the signal INTO the amp is too large for the "pipe", so it distorts). The main amp is limited to output.
It can be changed by the Sony sotware programmers that produce the android version for the Xperia. The fix would take 30 minutes to re-write and patch.

Poor audio from Sony - the maker of the MU-TE-KI 2000 WATT 7.4 home theatre, and apartment shaking sound system.
It's ridiculous.

Open the walkman app > menu > settings > change the equalizer and headphone settings

Tried every setting I could find, but the volume is still very low. Same when making a call, so I don't think it's isolated to the Walkman app. Volume is fine without the headphones. Any other ideas?

It could be, you can repair it with SUS or PCC and check again, if that doesn't work then you must take it to a Sony repair center

Very low volume

I just got my Z1 and I think that the volume is waaay to low both for speaker and headphone. In my case the headphones is the major issue. I have it turned all the way up, but still it's very low. On my iPhone the volume is great, but on Z1 is about the middle volume of iPhone. I see that several other people are experiencing this aswell. Is it by design or something wrong with my device? If by design please will you send an update to increase volume?

The volume is ridiculously low from the headphone jack. I tried with different headphones and also connected to car stereo and even on max volume it's extremely low. The volume seems fine when using my small In-Ear headphones, but when using a bit bigger On-Ear headphones or car stereo as mentioned the volume is veeery low. This needs to be fixed! I don't want to have to root my phone to get the volume boost needed for an acceptable level.
