Sony Xperia SL - Microphone issues

Hello,

I bought my Xperia SL about 9 months ago and it has worked almost perfectly for this entire duration. I upgraded 'on air' to 6.2.B.1.96 a couple of weeks ago and everything was running smoothly till about a couple of days ago.

I started getting complaints people on the other end of the phone line were not able to hear me clearly. I soon realized that the only way out was to either use my Sony headset or put the phone on loudspeaker, both very inconvenient options for situations like taking calls while at work. It also turns out that the audio recording feature of the phone does not work properly any more as the sound volume is VERY low (barely audible).

I started looking online for people facing similar situations and found a number of cases for some Xperia models. Here are the things that I have tried so far.

1) 'Repairing' my phone using PC Connection.

2) Dialing *#*#7378423#*#* to get to service tests. Based on the tests available, it is confirmed that my primary microphone is not recording as expected.

3) I read about similar problems being caused due to Live wallpapers or SmartConnect. I was not using any live wallpapers but I have disabled any of the stock live wallpapers that were on my phone. I have also disabled SmartConnect.

4) Disabled the option of voice search as somewhere I read that it could be causing the problem.

However, none of this has led to any positive outcomes. I tried searching the forums but could not find any instances where people were able to successfully fix a similar problem on Xperia SL. I hope there is some way to fix this problem ASAP. Any inputs in helping me fix this issue would be much appreciated.

P.S.. - I don't have any protective case or film that could be affecting the microphone physically and no I have NOT dropped my phone in the recent past (at least 3 months) for this to be a result of mishandling.

First make sure that there's no dirt or dust in the microphone located on the bottom of the phone. If that's not the problem i would recommend that you contact a service location for further investigation and repairs.
