I got the Xperia Z tablet a month ago as my first tablet device ever and enjoy it a lot, mainly using it for movies , ebooks, internet and streaming sports.

I just wanted to know if the Good out weighs the Bad in the new 4.2.2 jelly bean update?

Would it increase system performance, increase battery life, and also increase security?

I've only heard about the black bar at the top and back button being put in the middle

I use the tablet a lot and just wanna get the best out of it. Normally I might not be concered, but every time I check my email i see the "New system update available" notification.

I am enjoying it.

All my android devices feel the same to get around on now, which I prefer.

It's snappier, the battery life seems as good or better.

The mic volume now seems good for Skype and videos, although it is still crappy for audio memos.

It does retain the Sony mini app bar at the bottom and I thinkthat's a brilliant feature.

Most complaints seem to focus on the new "home button group" location and the top notification bar.

I think this is subjective, as I said already, I prefer the conventional layout this update changes ours to.

All in all, I unequivocally. approve of this update.:smileywin:

I am trying to get back to 4.1:-(

the new layout of home button group and notification center isnt as convenient as perious. Dont know why sony decided to put notification and home button in center on a such large screen tablet. Now it is impossible for anyone to use home menu or check notification with both hand holding the tablet. Its awkward.

Sony`s layout of home button and notification was the spotlight on lots of reviews only because it enhanced customers experience on large screen tablet.

Everyone puts home button in the center since apple start to put home button in the center of bottom. But dont they ever thought about how annoying it is? Dont get the point of letting you have to take your hand off the tablet to get home button.

Soz, im bit mad:smileylaugh:

I would very much like to go back to 4.1.2 because of the ill placed buttons, reduced screen area and text rendering problems. However in 4.1.2 I had a very unstable WiFi connection, couldn't stay connected to my home WiFi for longer than 10 minutes before it dropped connection. This at least is now completely fixed, steady connection both 2,4 and 5 GHz...

I'm very disappointed with this update. New places of buttons do not bother me, but :

- The battery is draining faster than with 4.1,

- I need to make 3 or 4 attemps before being able to connect with Miracast screen mirroring to my TV (it tooks only one attempt and 10 seconds max with 4.1).

- Mirroring still dfisables wifi connection . With my galaxy S3, both are able to work together.

- Photo gallery (album) is still crappy (no way to sort files by name).

I will not be updating anytime soon. I am hoping that Sony will release another update that will push the navigation buttons back to the bottom left corner. That was one of the reasons why I chose an XTZ over a Nexus 10. Also I have not experienced too many issues with 4.1.2. As for the update centre notification I just went into the app and disabled all notifications from the in-app settings. I then force quit the update centre app from the android app manager. Now I no longer see the update listed in the notification area until I reopen and refresh the update centre app.

The update is more good than bad...it seems like the battery charges a bit faster (and drains faster), also no dropped wifi service.

The placement of the buttons is something I can live with, though I would rather have the choice of moving them back to the lower left.

I really needed the Wifi + BT fix, so that's what I'm happy for.

The new layout of the buttons and notification bar is annoying but I can live with it.

The most annoying is when wanting to press Back, which I use a lot.

If anybody knows an app that allows customization of that please share with us!

For me the lows out weighed the highs of this update. the main new features, are features which for me i dont use, you obviously may use your tblet in a different manner to me and for you they may be very beneficial. i am the only user, so multi user has no meaning to me, and the lock screen widgets arent used either. the layout of the top bar and the navigation buttons totally ruined the experience for me though. I never had any of the issues others had with sensetivity and juming screen etc, so the fixes for these also didnt really effect me, i did find battery drain on the new update was worse than before also.

i'd actually like to downgrade to the old layout, while 4.2.2 brings some nice new features like multiuser support and a host of fixes. the new layout of the menu and app bar really annoys me in day to day use. for this i can't recommend it.

you'll always have to move your hand to the buttons, while there is empty screen estate underneath your fingers location. it gets annoying really quick. next to that, if you like portrait mode, you can't lock it anymore.

Haven't noticed much other than the relocation of the home icons to the centre. I agree with others that this is inconvenient on such a large screen. Just think, some idiot at Sony is actually getting paid for coming up with this stuff - genius!

I think this is not Sony, but Google making this dumb move. The success that they have had with Android has given them the feeling that they can do no wrong. In this case Google made the determination that they should make all Android products have a basic common UI. They are thinking wrongly that users are very dumb and phones and tablets should all have the same functional UI. They lost sight of the beautiful open system where manufacture and user could customize the look.

I have not seen a single manufacturer that is sporting 4.4.2 that retains the soft buttons on the left bottom. The Samsung tab has the upper band. They do not have the lower band because they have three hard dedicated buttons outside the display....and they are in the middle!

If someone can point out any brand of tablet with 4.4.2 that still retains bottom left buttons....I would be very surprised.
