As I am using a Macbook pro, the latest Bluetooth™ driver is already installed. There is no way of changing the drivers and I suppose the Apple drivers are very well tested.

My other device is a Google Nexus 7, which uses drivers supplied in the firmware.

As Bluetooth™ tethering worked with both devices with the Motorola smartphone I used before, I think it might be related to either the Xperia-Ps Bluetooth™ hardware or software.

Hi,

I'm using my Xperia P to connect my Apple Macbook to the Internet via Bluetooth. The connection initially works fine but I noticed that as soon as the phone loses network for a short period, the bluetooth connection dies. Same happens sometimes when the network switches from 3G to 2G due to bad reception. Is there a bug in the bluetooth driver?

The same happens when I connect my Nexus 7 tablet.

Using WiFi or USB Tethering is not an option due to battery or cable.

My Carrier is T-Mobile Germany.

I have a hard time testing this my self because i have good network coverage where I am.

Do you experience this if you try to Bluetooth tether to another computer?

You can try to put the phone on only WCDMA under settings > more.. > mobile network > network mode to see if that gets better.

I have only tried this with my Macbook and Android tablet. Both are experiencing the same issues.

Setting the phone to WCDMA helps a little, but once the phone loses 3g signal for a longer period, the bluetooth connection does not recover.

I would like to add that tethering via WLAN works slow but stable. Unfortunately, it drains the battery much faster.

Is it likely, that the bluetooth issues might be fixed in a future firmware?

I will try to use my bluetooth later today, to make sure that the bluetooth hardware is not broken.

Peripheral Bluetooth™ devices usually do not need a driver, as Bluetooth™ is a standardised technology. All drivers which are needed to connect peripheral devices via Bluetooth™ should already be installed on the PC.

To solve this issue, you should reinstall the Bluetooth™ drivers on your PC. Please contact the manufacturer of your Bluetooth™ chipset to get the latest version of the Bluetooth™ drivers for your PC.
