Since I want to buy a 64GB microSDXC card specifically for the tablet, and don't already have one to test with, I was wondering if anyone call tell me if it is compatible or how to find out.

Thanks.

I have just been notified by Sony tech support that the Xperia Z tablet has only been tested on Class 4 Micro SD cards and they cannot provide support on the use of Class 10 cards.

I have tried and failed to play movies through my card, it will not store anymore than 4 movie files and I cannot move apps to the external device. I have formatted it to FAT32 as people seem to recomend.

Sony have offered a full refund as their website description is inaccurate. I'm very disappointed in Sony.

BigCol4, My SD card is a Class 10 (see link in post above yours) and it works fine. I have about 20 movies on it which I copied to test a variety of movie file formats. All play with VLC. I originally formatted the card to EXT4 (via my Linux PC) which did not work but I re-formatted it on the Xperia and after that it worked. Also some of the movies are greater than 4 GB so whatever format the Xperia used to format the card does not have the 4 GB file size limit. I suggest you reformat the card in your Xperia and see if that works. You can find the format SD card settings somewhere in settings, can't remember where. HTH.

I could put loads of music and pictures onto it and they work great.

I can put a maximum of 4 movie files onto it, all of which will play no problem through VLC player and the standard Movie player but if I put anymore than 4 movie files on they won't play. They show up as having a duration of 0.00 in VLC player and the standard movie player simply states it cannot play them.

I've just reset the Xperia and will try to reformat the card.

I don't understand it at all.

I bought a Sandisk Ultra 64GB Class 10 Micro SD Card and the tablet reads from it ok but it does have difficulty writing large files and lots of multiple small files to the card. It's formatted as exFAT and if I transfer a large movie it will just stop in the middle of copying and eventually time out. The same happens if I copy loads of mp3s - it will come back with an error 'cannot copy' or something to that effect. I thought it was a fault of the SD card at first but this problem doesn't occur if it is plugged directly into the SD reader on my laptop. I haven't tried formatting at FAT32 as suggested but I didn't really want to go down that route as some of my files are >4GB. Anyone else had the same problem with this card?

Hello Ste87,

I have EXACTLY the same problem with my tablet xperia z (WIFI 32GB) and the same memory card (Sandisk Ultra 64GB Class 10 Micro SD Card). The memory card is OK with my computer but not with my tablet. It's not a question of format because I let the tablet format the card.

I think the tablet has some trouble to detect the card on continue (there are some small disconnections)

Did you find a solution? Did you try with an other card (not scandisk or not class 10)? Anyone?

If I have no solution, I will return my tablet.

Thanks !

I have been trying for days to get a ScanDisk 64gb micro SDXC Class 10 to work on my Xperia 16GB Wi-Fi (UK) version.

The sd card keeps unmounting itself.

This one...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDSDQU-064G-U46A-microSDXC-Including-Adapter/dp/B007JTKM30/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379077820&sr=8-1&keywords=sandisk+64gb

I used the tablet to format it ('erase' on the tablet).

I used my PC to format it to exFat (default setting).

I haven't formatted to FAT32, which some people have suggested, but that may be for the earlier version of 'Jelly Bean'.

I've tried various software like 'Media Go' (supplied with tablet), Winamp and others to transfer files. I've tried to 'drag and drop' via my PC.

I've only noticed the unmounting when transferring files to the card, but I've not had much of a chance to watch anything, as I've been trying non stop to try and resolve the matter, to see if it happens on playback.

I am royaly fed up now. I have contacted Sony by email to see if they have an answer.

I have, however, due to research on the web sent the Scandisk card back to Amazon. The SanDisk cards are clearly hit and miss and I am after something reliable to use in the tablet.

I did find this place that has alternative microSD cards for the Sony, but they also list the ScanDisk....

http://www.mymemory.co.uk/compatible-memory/Tablet_Computer/Sony/Sony+Xperia+Tablet+Z_Memory_Cards

I am going to contact the memory retailer to see if they have had any issues with compatibility of the Xperia Z and microSD cards.

I will post back when I hear from them and Sony.

As promised I have an update on the microSDXC card.

Sony were not much help as they couldn't recommend a card that would definitely work with the Xperia Z Tablet.

However, much more helpful where the people at 'mymemory' who had a number of cards they recommend including the Samsung micro SDXC 64GB.

I took the plunge and gambled on the premise that the Samsung would work.

Unfortunately I could get it cheaper at Amazon, and they also where good enough to take back the ScanDisk microSD card that wouldn't work!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-MicroSDXC-Memory-without-Adapter/dp/B009HPFUGI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1379075376&sr=8-2&keywords=samsung+64gb+micro

I can confirm, with my 16GB Wi-Fi tablet at least, that the Samsung card worked.

I didn't have to format it or muck about in any way. I just popped it in, the tablet recognised it, 'MediaGo' recognised it and I've filled 75% of it with movies, photos and music, with only minor hiccups which I can only put down to a 'MediaGo' failure or local PC problems. These problems occurred when I stacked up a lot of files to be transferred, over 10GB at a time, so I went a bit slower and it went on fine. You may find your media goes on better than I did.

I've not had one unexpected SC card unmouting since it's been in, 3 days now.

It worked for me, which I'm very happy about.

All the negative posts I read about the ScanDisk 64GB, that I initially bought, mirrored my experience.

I can't explain why the ScanDisk doesn't work well in the Xperia Z Tablet, but if you are in the same position as me pay the extra and get the Samsung, from what I read it's the better quality and more reliable card.

Good luck.
