I decided to buy an experia u because i saw in sony's webpage that it was upgradable to android 4.0. After upgrading, wifi became to work poorly. I've tried to solve this problem with my service provider, TMN, and Phonetech, but instead of solving the wifi problem, the soluction encountered was downgrade to android 2.3. I do no agree with this solution. Is it possible to solve this problem, or i'll continue to be disappointed with sony.

José

(zito31@hotmail.com)

hello.

Thanks for answering. But, the problem is only with wi-fi.

After being connected to a wifi network, after a few minutes the internet stops working. The service is locked, and the only way to regain the wifi working again is to disconnect and reconnect the cellphone.

With android 2.3 it does not.

This issue is far from being solved. It was reported in other forums. For some reason, in some wi-fi environments, the phone starts a process called "wpa_supplicant", that simply cannot be stoped and drains all the battery in a question of hours. To check if this is your case go to "Developer settings" and activate the "Show CPU use" (I'm not sure this is the right spelling, my phone is not in english) checkbox. The wpa_supplicant task will appear on top of the list, unmovable, unstopable unless you reboot the phone.

So far I have been unable to solve the problem. If anybody knows a fix or a workaround and let me know I would be grateful (of course I don't mean Sony, I know they don't care about us)

Unfortunately, like you, I am very disappointed with Sony, which to me was a reference of quality. Defects in equipment may always be, but we must take them and resolve them ASAP.

Already took the phone twice to repair. At first it was with the company that sold me the equipment locked to network TMN Portugal. The solution they found was to downgrade to 2.3. The second time, the equipment was "repaired" in phonetech company, which is recommended by Sony. The solution was the same, the Downgrade.

By phone, I contacted Sony to ask for permanent resolution of the situation, which would put it to work with Android 4. I was amazed at the response they gave me. They told me that the firmware from Sony works well, but what was placed by Provider Mobile TMN is a problem that should have, and that sony is not responsible for it.

I'm very disappointed, and I'm thinking never buy anything from Sony.

Unfortunately, I have to say the Sony Xperia U for sure has a WiFi problem.

The problem though, is that this device is picky with wireless routers.

It will do just fine on my ISP's Ubee router (b/g/n), and my very cheap Sweex router (b/g).

On the other hand, while connecting it to the D-Link DHP-1565 (in fact, three of these advanced systems), the WiFi experiences issues.

When using Google talk, there doesn't seem much wrong with it. But opening a browser on the Sony causes not only the Sony's WiFi to crash, but all devices connected to this wireless router will get bogged down.

Needless to say this caused me a lot of time and frustration.

I have tried many different ways of authentication, speed, whatever comes to mind on the D-Link but none helped. I am afraid I will have to root my Xperia-U to get rid of the problem, or sell it while it's still in pristine condition.

So far, it dropped in my "highly recommended" list to "not recommended". Sorry Sony...

Never used the FON network or equivalent. It was reported that the "wpa_suplicant" problem was related with WPA2 autentication. Some people found useful to switch their wi-fi routers from WPA2 to WPA, but obviously this is not a solution if you want to connect to different hot spots.

Hello,

I'm preparing a class-action lawsuit against Sony Corporation regarding this chronic wifi problem with Sony Xperia U (ST25) smartphones. For months Sony Customer Service received hundreds of complaints and requests but never managed to address this issue. Lately customers are being told that the support to this 17 month-old model was discontinued.

As you might know the failure to comply with customers complaints regarding equipment UNDER WARRANTY makes Sony liable for legal prosecution under US consumers protection legislation. This means that customers are entitled to receive a considerable financial compensation from the offending entity.

Therefore I urge all customers to contact your own legal representative in order to organize joint legal actions against this unscrupulous company. If you are interested you can also join my own legal action.
