Xperia Tipo won't detect headphones properly?

I often have to reboot my phone, sometimes twice to get the headphones to work. I hoped an update would fix this, but i've just installed the recent system update and the problem remains. I use Sony headphones (MDR-ZX600). When I plug in the headphones, it won't detect it. No matter how many times I try. Also happens with my smaller "plug" sport headset (Sennheiser).

Also the sound output at the loudest volume is not very loud, except when you turn on the FM radio app. Then it's much louder at maximum volume than in spotify for instance.

Just thought I'd report this problem on the forum. If anyone knows the solution i would like to hear it Thanks.

Does the same thing happen when using the headset that was included with the phone? If it does, there might be some glitch in either the software or the headphone socket. At first you should try updating/repairing the software in the phone. If the problem persists, you might have to send in the phone to a service location for repair.

Regarding the volume, this has been reported and escalated further. Haven't head anything about it since unfortunately.

same problem here (also a tipo).

It worked for a couple of days and now almost never. I tried three different headphones, always the same: plugging in/out doesn't change the output (the tipo doesn't come with a Sony headphone).

I use the app "SoundAbout" as workaround, but its annoying. Haven't tried a factory reset yet though.

Yes, I know all about this issue. I have four headphone sets, two are very expensive, all the same size of course 3.5 but only a really cheap set will work with my Tipo, it refuses to work with the other headsets. So I when to a Sony dealer in my local high street, None, I'll repeat, None of the headsets available on that day worked, all were either ignored completely or I was informed that they were not compatible. So I am stuck using the old headset that cost 9.99 English pounds. WHY?

Well there was no headset included in my box. I am not sure if it is a flaw in my phone, or if it is a general software problem. Roguecroce here also seems to have this problem with several earphones. I have worked around it for now with the app FredFoobar suggested.

Alright. Just to make sure, you are using CTIA-compatible headphones, right? Because OMTP won't work in this phone.

I'm using CTIA headphones. I've got 3 original Apple iPhone headphones and only 1 pair works on the Tipo even though all pairs work on every other device. Expensive Bose headphones...nope those don't work either. The Samsung headphones that came with my Galaxy Nexus are they only other pair that work reliably with my Tipo. Had another cheap pair laying around that didn't work. So I'm 2 for 6 on getting headphones to work which is just dumb, I mean you guys created the Walkman! How do you not get the importance of being able to use the majority of headphones with a mobile electronic device??? Looking around on the forum and it seems several other Xperia models have similar problems.

I´ve got similar (maybe same) problem. Phone worked fine for month. Now output detection only works well on phone start up. I have original headset and I have tried to reset to factory settings, clearing cache, everything. When I start my phone up with no headphones plugged in, it never detect them. When I start it with plugged headphones, nearly all sound output goes to headphones. Wierd thing is - when I plug them out, it stops music player as usuall, also when I change my sound volume the sound uses correct output as well as incoming phone call sound. Totally looks like software/firmware error - but I have tried all reset options and also updating phone. I can spend money (send it 30times = new phone) and send my phone to repair, but who will garantee it will not happen in month again? I have also contacted local Sony support center (Czech Republic) but they just tell me to send it to repair.

i've got the same problem. Solved it by do the factory reset in the settings. Now the earphone is working

My problem is much different and much more weird !! When I remove the earphones that came with it, the music starts playing on its own (picks the first song stored I guess) !! Crazy...Anybody have this issue?

I am facing the same problem. The phone [sony xperia tipo] is not recognizing the inserted headphones provided by sony. And the sound always comes out through the Phone speaker rather than the inserted headset. I tried restarting the phone several times - that did not help. Please provide a resolution/update to the same or please escalate this as this is of a major concern to me.

Hey,

I had a similar problem . my phone (Tipo) wouldn detect the headset until i rebooted it when the headset was inserted.

I tried updating the software , reseting the phone.! nothing seemed to work hence the conclusion is that its a hardware problem and not a software glitch.

So what i did was , took a ear swab, pulled out some of the cotton from the cotton tip and cleaned the headset jack.

believe it or not. now it works! try it!

I'm having the same problem, i have to reboot my phone to get the headphones to work and then when i plug them out i have to reboot again because it still thinks they are plugged in, it is very annoying, can someone please help?

Connect the phone to the computer and it's also the same thing as updating. If the phone is updated, click the "repair my phone/tablet" button. Also, connect the earphones to the phone while doing so.

Hi guys!

Same problem here. It's strange thing with those headphones. It seems like it's hardware problem, because i tried updating software and it didn't change a thing. I also reinstalled the original firmware. For those who wonder: Cyanogen Mod is not the answer to our problem too.

But if anyone has idea what could solve the problem, please give me a hint. I'll be happy to try it out.

Update:
I read somewhere that cleaning socket might help. And it worked!
Simple way to do it ( You do it at your own risk! )
1. Turn of the phone
2. Take cotton swap (u need to take a bit of cotton from the stick so it fit the socket)
3. Soak it with alcohol (but not too much, squeeze cotton a bit)
4. Clean the socket
5. Wait a bit untill socket get dry
6. Turn on the phone.

However I don't understand why it works since headphones worked earlier... Hope it will help u.

But the volume is too low, maybe both the side of the earphone doesn't work. I check lots of earphones but still doesn't work. Sound is very low, 😕

Yes I am having the same problems with My Xperia (Although I have the Miro) it worked fine out of the box (which had no stock phones in it) I use my trusty JVC Flats (mk 2 shape) I have used these on Ipods - The famous Sony Walkmans both Audio Tape, Compact Disk and Mini Disk, I have used them on Vintage receivers, on permanent multi towers, so I know theyre not to fault.

My new phone however is from Talktalk, I run bullguard security I have the max memory in it (32GB) the only thing that changed was an update I had when first turning my phone on although after some research there would appear to be a floor in the Jellybean OS that effects the Jacks Audio Output.

I have kept the male jack in the phone so it shouldn't be dirty in there, Its in a leather flip case and I havn't dropped or got it wet it so I don't see how damage would have been caused.

Should I retun it to Talktalk for a replacement?

UPDATE:

Hi yes I am trying to solve this before getting off to bed so with my last attempt to get into bed I sprayed TCP onto the male jack and put it into the female jack on the phone and twisted - this appears to have solved the problem although I would recomend using WD40 if you have some to hand as TCP is an anticeptic liquid - To spray it I bought some spray bottles off eBay roughly 100ml and decanted the TCP into them, be carfull not to injest the TCP thoug as although you can injest it the instructions tell you to dilute it at least 10-1 (but for decanting I use it pure)

Hi My Sony Xperia Tipo is not detecting the original ( Bundled ) headphone. I have to restart my phone to use them.

My phone has latest updates installed. I have tried reset ( Factory restore ) my phone several times but it did not worked. My friend is also having the same problem. There might be a software BUG, Please correct it and send us update.
