Recording to external HDD with Sony KD - 49X8307C

Hello

Sorry if this is a really straightforward question, but am looking for some help with recording to a USB hard drive from my Sony TV.

The model we've got is 49X8307C.

I tried a small usb stick (16GB) before I realised it has to be a minimum of 32GB according to the manual.

It comes up with a warning that recording is not available on YouView.

Before I go and buy a bigger external USB hard drive, will this work? If so do users think it works well - or causes problems? Is it reliable?

My other option is to buy a FreeSat TV recorder and use existing Satellite feed, but this would be more expensive for a reasonable sized box.

What do people think?
